Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have sworn to the Lord God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth, that I will not take a thread or a sandal thong or anything that is yours, for fear you would say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’”
Genesis 14:22-23
You and I are bound to whatever makes us rich. You have heard the expression: “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you.” But many of us bite the hand that feeds us because we are deceived about the source of blessing. Meanwhile, we lick the hands of those who enslave us. Idolatry is seeking blessing from the wrong source.
The drug addict seeks relief from pain through narcotics.
The freemason seeks blessing from the lodge and its rituals. (Someone recently told me of a Freemason who said, “The Masons have done more for me than the grace of God ever did.”).
The workaholic seeks affirmation and security from his occupation.
An insecure woman seeks affirmation and security through the powers of seduction.
The foundation of all sin is the belief that satan will give us something God withholds from us. The Bible says that “Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.” Romans 4:3 (Genesis 15:6). The Christian is the person, like Abram (whose name changed to Abraham), who believes that his riches come from God alone.
The source of your blessing becomes the authority in your life. This truth is the reason, as pastor Mike Signorelli says, “satan is also in the blessing business.” From whomever you receive a blessing, you also become obligated. Abram was in a covenant (under an obligation) with God, and he didn't want to jeopardize that relationship by coming under the yoke of another power’s blessing.
Many Christians have literally come under the “yoke” of another’s blessing through Yoga, which means “yoke.” Yoga offers the benefit of peace, but accepting the “peace” of yoga makes you obligated to keep the rules of yoga. True Christians must join Abram in saying, “I will not take a thread or a sandal thong or anything that is yours for fear you would say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’” You don't need yoga to have peace when you are in fellowship (covenant) with the Prince of Peace.
The foundation of all sin is a lack of faith in God’s covenant faithfulness. Every compromise is a yoke of slavery. Don't let yoga, addiction, or the king of Sodom bind you with their “blessings.” Repent of counterfeit comforts and lean into “the Comforter,” Whom Jesus calls “the Holy Spirit.” (John 14:26).
If you are struggling with addiction or you have wandered into the occult through yoga or some other means, you may need deliverance from evil spirits attached to those activities. Or, if you have never known Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life, leave a comment. I will contact you, and we will pray. Jesus will heal you and set you free.
