Matthew 24 is the parallel to Luke 21. There, the disciples ask when shall be the end of the world? The Greek word translated in the KJV as “world”, or in other versions “age”, is the same word Jesus uses in Matthew 13:37-43 when explaining the parable of the wheat and the tares and the judgment which takes place at the end of the world. Matthew 24 therefore is a dual prophecy, referring to the destruction of the temple in Jesus’ day but also to the end of the world in our own. 2 Peter 3 affirms that this world will be destroyed at the Second Coming of Christ in flaming fire, and Paul confirms this in 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9.…
